Strep throat is caused by the Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria. This infection affects everyone but is usually predominant in children less than 13 years of age and it’s symptoms include pain and inflammation of the throat.
There are homemade remedies you can use to reduce the inflammation and ease the pain in your throat. These simple and easy to get remedies will kill the Streptococcus bacteria and provide you with added protection against a recurrence.
Honey will be effective in treating your strep throat infection. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that will destroy the bacteria and reduce the inflammation.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is also effective in combating your strep throat infection you can follow these instructions:
Mix 3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of warm water. You can also raise the dosage by using a mixture of 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar to 16oz of warm water. Gargle this solution in the morning or at night before you go to bed.
You will notice an improvement within 30 minutes of gargling.
Essential oils like grapefruit, lemongrass, lemon, thyme, cinnamon, lavender and sage have been proven to be effective against strep throat because of their excellent antibacterial properties. You can try this recipe:
Mix 5 drops of any of the aforementioned essential oil in water. Put the mixture in a pan and heat on a stove. Take the pan from the stove before it boils. You should then inhale the steam emanating from the mixture for about 10-15 minutes.
You can repeat this procedure as often as needed daily.
Instead of swallowing vitamin C pills you can try drinking tea mixed with honey and lemon which is rich in vitamin C. The vitamin C in the lemon has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which will help to fight off the infection, soothe the pain and swelling in your throat.
Now don’t be alarmed you are not expected to chew this pepper. To treat your strep throat infection with cayenne pepper just mix a teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper powder to a 1/2 cup of carrier, coconut or olive oil.
Use this mixture as a cream and apply to your throat area. It is also useful for relieving tense muscles.
