Apparently, the popular e-cigarettes might not be as safe as we all think. According to a recent study, they contain vaporous organic compounds, acetone, acetaldehyde, benzopyrene, formaldehyde, and different metal particles and silicate. As the German Cancer Research Center states, e-cigarettes are “An uncontrolled experiment with Consumers.”
These “safe” cigarettes aren’t emission-free. As we mentioned, they have vaporous organic substances in their content, including nicotine, flavors, and propylene glycol, which are emitted in the air in the form of aerosol and mist. These superfine liquid particles, which are smaller than 2.5 micrometer in diameter, can enter deeply in our lungs, according to one study. Although these e-ciggarettes might produce significantly smaller number of ultrafine particles than the regular cigarettes, the substances they emit in the air can be easily inhaled by other people around the person who smokes. The German Cancer Research Center in Heildelberg, says that the negative effects of the second-hand exposure to these artificial cigarettes isn’t excluded.
One of the other important things that were revealed in this e-cig study, is that the e-cig emission contains the following substances and compounds: glycol which is the main substance, flavors, vaporous organic compounds, nicotine, silicate, acetone, flavors, benzo(a)pyrene, metal particles, formaldehyde, and tobacco-specific nitrosamines. Other important fact presented in the study is that the particle size of the e-cigarettes is surely comparable to that of the regular cigarettes, and that though their harmful substances’ level is lower than that of the normal cigarettes, they still accumulate in indoor air.
Although everyone knows that breathing in unknown vapors is not healthy, it’s good to inform people that these e-cigarettes produce second-hand harms, so they can avoid using them around children or other people. We believe that it won’t be that much long, till the state mandates forbidding e-cig smoking on business owners’ private properties.
