The British scientists have discovered a device intended for fast DNA sequencing of bacteria that causes infections in the urinary tract.
With the help of the new device, the identification of the bacteria will be enabled from a sample of the urine and it will be four times faster than it is possible with traditional methods.
Scientists from the University of East Anglia believe that it will lead to faster treatment of these infections and will allow more efficient use of antibiotics.
The new device can detect the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics.
It is estimated that the bacteria are resistant to the action of more antibiotics and cause 400 000 infections and 25 000 deaths each year in Europe.
