Just a few peanuts daily can significantly reduce the risk of death from heart disease or stroke. The researchers found that consuming only 10 grams of peanuts a day may reduce the risk of respiratory diseases, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
During 22 years, researchers from Harvard followed the health status of 6,000 people with type 2 diabetes, which increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. Participants in this study had a special diet, and every second or fourth year filled questionnaires about diet.
The results showed that those who ate peanuts were more protected from heart attack and stroke. The real surprise was that the risk was reduced by 44 percent. Also, the peanut has an equal effect on women and men.
