How to Use Baking Soda to Fix One of Life’s Most Annoying Problems

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) has antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a powerful medical tool effective at combating everything from colds to oral problems to skin issues.

It helps regulate pH—keeping a substance neither too acidic nor too alkaline. When baking soda comes in contact with either an acidic or an alkaline substance, its natural effect is to neutralize that pH.

How to Use Baking Soda to Solve the Most Annoying Problems

Hand Softener

Mix baking soda with warm water and rub it on your hands. This natural scrub will leave your hands clean and soft.

Feet Soother

Soaking your feet in a baking soda solution will help soothe and soften tired feet. Mix 3 tablespoons of baking soda into a small tub of warm water and soak.

Pedicure Provider

Soak one and one-half tablespoons of baking soda in one and one-half cups of water and put your fingers (up to the cuticles) in the mixture for 10 minutes. Rinse, and you’ll see the thin layers of dead skin come off.

Nail Fungus

Nail fungus is a fungal infection generally forming beneath the nail, more commonly on the toe nails. It should be treated immediately otherwise it will spread to other parts of the body or lead to loss of the nail

The alkaline nature of baking soda can prevent fungus from growing and spreading.

Mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of baking soda with enough warm water to make a paste. Apply it on your nails for a few minutes. Rinse it off with warm water. Repeat once daily.

Get Rid of Yellow Nails

The bleaching and exfoliating properties of baking soda can help remove stains from the nails.

Mix two and one-half tablespoons of baking soda and one tablespoon of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide. Apply the mixture on the stained nails. Leave it on for 3-4 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat this process every six to eight weeks.
